First Star I See Tonight (Short Row Tutorial)

I am LOVING this star! Mainly I love the way it looks but I also love that I had to learn new techniques to knit it. Short rows! There have been a few other patterns I've wanted to work on but not understanding short rows stopped me. Well stop me no more! You can find the pattern for the stars here. How to Knit: Get Rid of Your Knitting Tail

Picture this... you go to start knitting a large item, such as a blanket, you aren't sure how much yarn to use to cast on, so you pull out lots of yarn. After casting on you start to knit, only to realize that you started knitting with the tail instead of the working yarn. So you have to take everything out and start again. Sure, you can cut the tail so it isn't as long but wouldn't it be even better if you could get rid of the tail and not have to worry about it??? Hopefully you said yes! Here is a great way to get the tail out of the way and not have to worry about it!

Knitting i-cord

I'm using the I-cord knit for the stem of the apple trivet (mentioned in the previous post). I am a stubborn Italian and I'm bound and determined to make each craft my own. I learned how to knit I-cord from a blog post I found on pinterest. Surprising isn't it? LOL

Normally to knit I-cord you would use double sided knitting needles. Since I currently do not own double sided knitting needles after I've knitted the row I transfer it back over to the other knitting needle.

To start cast on 3 stitches and knit normally. If you are using double sided needles push stitches to the right side of the needles. The working yarn will be coming from the far left stitch and knit regular with the working yarn coming from that last stitch. If using regular knitting needles transfer the stitches to the opposite needle with working yarn coming from bottom stitch and knit. Continue in this pattern until the desired length and bind of normally.
